It's interesting to study about people characters. The most important thing is that we will be able to understand our own personality, appreciate our talent and make full use of our strength to achieve success and overcome our weaknesses by adaptation and personality management.
In living in society, we do mingle with different kind of community and deal with variety of people's character, this is another reasonable reason to learn about personality to have better approach and understanding.
Sometimes, we wonder, "why on earth did she forgot where she parked her car?" "Have he ever feel tired talking non stop?" "Why he always have to magnified even a small mistake?"....and so on.
It is like a never ending doubt without having a proper understanding why we are different from each other.
Why Are We So Different??
Well....I would simply say that it is a complicated question with complicated answer. You basically can't tell that you are right and the other people are wrong and so forth. Everyone has their own interpretation and view, and as long as it is not deviated from the law of the universe agreed by most of the people. Whether or not you are capable of reaching the right thinking of the principle is all that matter.
The Four Temperaments:
Personality can basically be divided into 4 types and they are:
- Sanguine
- Choleric
- Melancholic
- Phlegmatic

The Sanguine
Sanguine is the most extrovert personality . They are called the popular sanguine for their cheerful and amazing entertaining capability. Life is definitely dull without the presence of sanguine! They are the attention seeker who always confident when being in crowds. They loved to be in the center most of the times, and love the attention from others while feeling good to know the fact that they are not alone. They love to be complimented and will always find their way to obtain compliments. They don't mind to do silly things not just to gain attention but because they find by doing so amusing themselves. The humiliation of making fool of themselves is outweigh by the pleasure of getting the attention.
Sanguine live a lively and optimistic life and always find social interaction invigorating. They have poor tolerance with boredom and will seek company and entertainment. They recharge their energy by being in crowds rather than spend their time alone. Sanguine are friendly and are usually the initiator of conversation and cheerily talk even with strangers they have just met.
Emotionally,sanguine is sensitive and easily sulk, but because they are living in current and not dwelling in the past, they are easily forgive and forget. They will not hold grudges. They openly express their feeling and affection through physical contact like hugging.
Sanguine are born as attention seeker with high popularity compared to other personality. So, they are basically have high self-esteem and self confidence and can be a good motivator that enthusiastically motivates others towards action because they are simply the optimistic type and the don't think too much type.
Choleric is the action and bold type of personality. They like to seek challenge and adventure. Exploring new things will be their source of motivation. They strive to prove their capabilities and demands respect from others to follow their leads.
Choleric are emotionally tough and strong, they are not easily offended and are valiant to accept challenge and confrontation in order to prove that they are right and to defend their opinions and statements.
In organizations, they are often appointed to hold the position of leader, planner and manager due to their confidence and leadership in nature. They use to seek to be in control of situations and ready to take charge to solve problems. They are firm and forceful in approaching and solving problems.
I have few friends which possessed the choleric traits. What I can see is whenever we are having conversations or group discussion, they often use imperative language, instructing others to get things done. They use to say "your job is to settle on this part" rather than " can you assist to settle on this part."
Choleric are often frank when it comes to uttering their opinions and they speak with confidence and certainty. They are insensitive, and most of the time are unaware of other people feeling.
Choleric is characterized by pragmatism, and with strong analytical and decision making skills, they are able to make fast decision and act promptly, that's why they don't face much problem when they face situation where they have to make choices. They don't think too much of the long term consequences, unlike Melancholy because their goal is to meet conclusion and solve the present problem.
They strive to be independent and is very hardworking to achieve their goal. They are action people who are not afraid of criticism and persistent in their effort to be in superior position.
The most prominent trait of melancholies is perfectionism. Melancholies are idealists who wish things to be in certain ways and will get distressed when they did not meet their expectations. Due to their desire to always be perfect in whatever their do, they tend to set an unrealistically high standard for themselves and others and expect the standard is met even with hardship and difficulties or unless they will get distressed.
They are intelligent and wise and their highest value is their capabilities to analyze the rights and wrongs and the consequences of certain decisions or actions. They are down-to earth and full of empathy toward other's difficulties. This quality of melancholic often make them a good consultant and listener.
Melancholies possess a strong desire to learn every minor details of certain things and they are willing to devote their time to investigate to seek details. They are not contented by just knowing on the surface. They are critical in making evaluations, that's why melancholies are slow in making decisions. Sometimes, this tends to make them over-analytical and neurotic worrier.
Melancholies are introverted, logical, analytical and factual in communication. They are calm and prefer a quiet environment and spend their time alone to generate ideas and recharge their energy in order for them to function effectively without feeling anxious.
They are shy and feel nervous, skeptical and self-conscious when meeting strangers and being in crowds. They are family oriented individuals and are very exclusive and quiet unless with their close family members and friends.
For everything they have to do, they usually prepare themselves ahead. They are not spontaneous and because of this, they will panic and tend to utter inappropriate and irrelevant words and responses when they are asked to give speeches or answer the unexpected questions.
They will blame themselves for mistakes because they are aware of their imperfection. They are less likely to blame other people, unlike choleric, and are willing to take responsibility for their wrong actions. They will learn from their mistakes and will improve themselves due to their perfection and high standard.
Melancholies prefer neat and organize place unless they can't function. They aren't easily satisfied with other's work, so they usually end up doing the work by themselves.
Emotionally, melancholies are very sensitive and emotional, their heart is as delicate as moth wings. They are moved deeply by beauty and also by distress. They are easily hurt, and once shattered, it is hard to repair and will haunt their heart for such a long time. They will remember every single bad experiences in the past in details and they will remember who have ever hurt them and they tend to hold grudges. Because melancholies often dwell in the past, they are extremely fear of taking risks and making wrong decisions especially when it comes with the similar situations they'd faced before.
Phlegmatics are generally care free individuals. They are insensitive, calm, unemotional and self content. They rarely touched by impressions, and are passive in both favorable and unfavorable environments and situations. They are kind- hearted and love to pleased others.
They are consistent and relax and living the same dull routine doesn't get them bored. That's why they are reliable and good administrator. They prefer to live in peace and will struggle to avoid conflicts at all costs. When facing difficult situations or confrontations, they are more likely to escape or admit their mistakes rather than to defend themselves to gain victory.
Phlegmatics are not the type that love thrills and challenges, which will cause them to feel distress and they wish to follow the less resistance path with confident without feeling worry. When being in new environment, they need some times to adapt.
Due to their strong desire to avoid conflicts, they are less likely to say "No" when they were asked even they disagree just to make other people happy. They are wishy-washy in making decision, that's why they prefer others to decide and they will feel pressured if they were asked to make the decisions. They are simply the follower type with the believe others are more capable in making decision.
Their conversation is fill with uncertainty due to their indecisive behavior. They are well- mannered and comfortable in following rules.
Phlegmatics are introvert which enjoys to spend their times alone and get along faithfully with their friends. They are trustworthy and can be a good listener. They are not expressive and not readily to share their inner thought, as they are afraid of other people judgement and do not wish to bother others with their thoughts.
