Fluffy Cheddar Cheese Bun For Snack Time
I've always love this simple but amazingly delicious cheese bun. It is made from a basic sweet bun dough and topped with generous amount of grated cheddar cheese and little bit of course sugar gives a pleasant aroma when baked in the oven.
To be honest, before I bought the bread maker machine, I 'd never successfully made my own bun. I'd tried to made this favorite bun of mine before by manually knead the dough, my bun didn't turn out as fluffy and soft as I wanted. I was feeling disappointed that I have never wish to make my own bun again till I got the bread machine to do the kneading for me. :)
I found a lot of great bun recipes, by merely doing a quick search, you will able to find thousands of bun recipes provided by the bakers and food bloggers all around the world! But I would prefer using my brother's bun recipe. He owned a certificate in culinary art and had once ran a bakery business. So, I consider his secret recipe is a masterpiece because he has the recipe adjusted on his own.
The bun recipe I'm going to share with you today is inspired by my brother's, with the ingredients are all the same, the difference is just the measurement because I don't remember to jot down the measurement. >.<
For the dough, as I mentioned earlier, it is made from a basic sweet bun dough. All that you need to have are the ingredients as I listed below:
Basic Sweet Bun Dough Ingredients:
300 gm bread flour
100 gm all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
40 gm butter/margarine
3 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 cup of fresh milk or evaporated milk
1 egg (medium sized)
50 gm sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 teaspoon of dry yeast
For the glaze : 1 egg and 2 tablespoon of fresh milk
AND...last but not least..the topping and filling of your choice.
For the topping, I used grated cheddar cheese and sugar.
The Preparation:
- Sift the bread flour together with all purpose flour, baking powder and bread improver.
- If you are using bread maker, combine the flour, egg, yeast, milk, vegetable oil, salt and sugar and select the "dough" in the menu.
- If you are using stand mixer, combine all ingredients in the mixing bowl fitted with a dough hook and beat at lowest speed for 1 minute then slowly increase the speed and continue kneading at moderate speed until a dough ball is formed.
- Transfer the dough ball into a lightly greased bowl, cover the bowl with a damp towel and let it raise in warm place until the size is doubled (around 40-50 minutes).
- Punch the dough to remove the air bubbles and transfer the dough onto the floured work surface.
- Divide the dough into small balls weigh 50 gm each and place the them in a greased round or square shaped cake mould. Separate the balls with a distance of about 2 inches away from each other as they will rise to double in size later. Spray or sprinkle water on top of the balls then have the mould covered with damp towel or waxed paper and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven at 170'C for 10 minutes and brush the top of the buns with egg and milk mixture.
- Bake in the oven for about 5 minutes until the buns are slightly raised, take them out from the oven, brush the top once again with egg mixture and sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese and course sugar.
- Baked in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
This recipe yields 19 medium sized buns.
I am absolutely happy and satisfied with the outcome! The bun is soft and fluffy with a sinfully delicious cheddar cheese aroma! Yeay!
Try to make your own cheese bun and you won't need to buy them anymore from the bakery. Happy baking!
