Homemade Healthy Sweet Potato Totilla Wrap
Recently, I am obsessed with experimenting recipes using sweet potatoes. Actually, I want to stay on track with my low carbs diet and to consume more complex carbohydrates rather than refined carbs. I've seen a lot of weight loss trainers are recommending the sweet potatoes consumption as a healthy sources of complex carbohydrates instead of brown rice, whole grain wheat and so on.
So..how does this amazing and superb delicious complex carbs is your great option especially to those whose aim for weight loss? Well..the magic is the nutrition value packed with it. Sweet potato is well known for its high fiber content which makes you feel full for a longer period and due its high fiber content, it helps to bulk your stool and smoothen stool movement in the colon and hence improves digestion and stool excretion. So, shifting to sweet potato based breakfast would be a great choice to kick-start your day!
In addition, it is also lower in calorie and has lower glycemic index compared to potato. That means it will not cause your blood sugar level to skyrocketed upon consumption and hence helps to keep your insulin in optimum level.
If you ask me which type of sweet potato I will choose, then my answer will definitely the one orange in colour. This is because it has added phytochemical known as beta-carotene that act as a powerful antioxidant. Recent studies has also indicate its superior ability to raise vitamin A level in blood upon consumption (here).
Maybe I will elaborate further on the benefits of sweet potatoes in my next entry but today I want to share with you an amazingly delicious and super easy sweet potato wrap. I just made these this evening for my next morning breakfast.
I've added a spoonful of chia seeds in the dough for additional nutritional values. Try to check this recipe out!
The ingredients of sweet potato wrap are:
- 1 cup of mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 medium sized sweet potatoes) - boiled with a bit of salt, skin off and mashed.
- 1/2 cup of all purpose flour ( I don't have any stock of whole grain/buckwheat flour, so I am using this flour)
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (I added this to soften the dough)
- 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
These are the pics of the ingedients I managed to capture . Eheh.. |
Methods:
- Combine all the ingredients in a bowl to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into 7 small dough and shape into small balls.
- Flatten the dough by gently pressing the dough using your palm and make a round thin-shaped that assembled a wrap you used to find in the store using a roller pin. This part can be challenging as the dough is not as firm and elastic as using the whole flour, so be sure to dust generous amount of flour on your work surface.
Yummy!!! Enjoy 😋😋😋😋 |
I'll share with you how I garnish the wrap with healthier toppings option in my next entry. Happy cooking!
